EMPLOYMENT

I'm an educator, but I'm also a dedicated freelancer. My educational life relies heavily on this, on the kinds of fairness and experience I bring to jobs. Like any contractor, my search for rich, equitable opportunity is constant. If you have something on your desk and the appropriate budget to hire out for it, you'll probably have my full attention pretty quickly.

You'll also find success in getting my attention if you have something long-term and undeniably interesting. The circumstances are rare, but I can be swept off my feet pretty quickly if conversations about your proposed work move along in the right order. For example, if you are an established game dev looking for an artist for a title, you will probably break the hearts of some of my students by prematurely tearing me from the warm capsule of academia. The money can be right. The job can be right.

And there's the standard stuff. If you're the art buyer for a periodical and need fast but solid illustration work, I'm interested. If you're an author looking for a cover illustrator, I will probably find an interest if I think your book is worthwhile material with a fair-to-generous budget. If you're a fellow creative looking for my art as a complement to what you've already made or plan to make, you will have to sell me on the idea with some fair assurances and expectations about where the project will head in the future. You will have to have a detailed plan for compensating my efforts.

I don't care about exposure. I don't ever work for free.

I value professional honesty. I value research. You don't need to be an artist to enjoy my work, but I appreciate when prospective clients have an understanding of creative economy and practice. If you put in the work to understand the industry in which my work exists, I will actively want to help you with your projects and deadlines.
